VU meter A700
for all Revox A700
from -40 dB to 6 dB with 40 LEDs, plug & play
After the original VU meters with pointer instruments for the Revox A700 were no longer available, we at Premium-Hifi immediately started thinking about how and with what to replace the VU meters. A replica with pointer instruments would be far too expensive. The tools alone would be priceless!Existing LED VU meters are not suitable or with 6 to 10 LEDs are far too inaccurate. We developed a VU meter with 20 LEDs per channel and a range of -40 dB to 6 dB.
The purpose of the advertisement is:
Replacing the pointer instruments if one or both VU meters are defective.
As a result you will receive:
A Revox A700 with functioning VU meters for the control of LED technology.
Description
VU meter A700
20 LEDs
per channel ensure high resolution. The display starts at -40 dB. This provides 20 dB better resolution than the analog instrument. From -4 dB to 4 dB, the resolution is 1 dB. 6 dB and -6 dB lie on the same line.
Look
The new level display has been adapted to the original analog VU meter as far as possible in font, size and response! The overload indicator starts at 6 dB (514 nWb/m) and stays lit for 0.5 seconds. This ensures you don't miss even the slightest clipping in your recording.6 dB and -6 dB of the LED display are on the same level. The overload indicators are located right and left center of the display, just like the original!
pluggable
The VU meter amplifier circuit board 1.067.425 is no longer required. Instead, the adapter board is equipped with the connections for the LED VU meter. Rectification, amplification, and channel balancing are performed on the new LED VU meter board. Replacing the LED version is no more complicated than replacing an original pointer instrument!
No soldering or anything else is required and therefore can be done by anyone!
Expansion of
VU meter A700
front panel
To remove the VU meter, the lower front panel must be removed. To do this, remove all control knobs and loosen two black screw s on the lower front panel and two aluminum screws on the control panel.
back wall
The back panel must be removed. To do this, loosen eight Phillips screws, then tilt the back panel slightly forward and carefully remove it (do not damage the power cable or the socket panel).
Set the back panel aside. The plastic tray detaches very quickly from the aluminum back panel. Special care is required here.
CAUTION! Unplug before opening!
VU meter amplifier
The circuit board of the VU meter amplifier
(1.067.425) is connected to the input amplifier board of the Revox A700 with just one screw. After removing the screw, the board can be removed from connector J7. Now disconnect the VU meter connector (J8).
VU meter
The VU meter of the Revox A700 is mounted on the rear shield plate with two spring-loaded screws. After loosening the two red marked screws, the VU meter can be pulled out to the front.
shield plate
The shield plate is attached to the chassis with three screws. These screws are replaced with the included standoffs. The shield plate must be mounted from the rear of the chassis.
Einbau LED-VU-Meter
connectors
Lead the connector, the adapter plate of the LED VU meter of the Revox A700 past the shielding plate to the rear of the device
Connect VU meter
Plug the LED VU meter connector into socket J7 on the Revox A700. The connector is keyed, preventing accidental misconnection!
Mounting the circuit board
Place the VU meter's circuit board onto the three standoffs and secure it with the three M3 x 6 screws. The upper screw (marked red) will have a fan-shaped washer to ensure good ground contact. The two lower screws (blue) will each have a flat washer.
Acrylic glass
Glue the new acrylic glass panel to the front panel of the Revox A700. The support is approximately 2 mm wide all around, which is enough to glue the glass in place.
Now the Revox A700 can be reassembled in reverse order.
