LED lighting for everyone
Revox B77 and PR99 VU meters
LEDs are
Since the bases for the VU meter lamps are no longer available, and the replacement lamps available elsewhere don't meet our requirements, we decided to manufacture the VU meter lamps ourselves. Furthermore, the availability of glass base lamps is becoming increasingly difficult, and delivery times are exorbitant and unmanageable! This is also why we manufacture our own precision bases for VU meters using modern LED technology. This means we are independent of both the sockets and the lamps and can ensure the illumination of the VU meters for the future!
The purpose of the new versions is:
To continue to ensure high quality illumination of the VU meters.
As a result you will receive:
A balanced illumination of the VU meters, atypical for LEDs.
Another advantage is:
You can choose the color you want for the lighting from 8 colors to adapt it to your needs. We recommend warm white lighting for the VU meters!
A much longer lifespan of LEDs compared to bulbs.
White base
Why others use black sockets or bases for VU meter illumination is a mystery to us. The black socket creates an unnecessary vertical bar in the display. Our bases are all white or translucent. This is the first step in our balanced VU meter illumination.r!
homogene
As you can see, the LED doesn't shine downwards. It shines backwards, toward the rear panel. This, along with the white base, ensures a uniform illumination unlike anything else. The base fits perfectly into the VU meter openings of the Revox B77 and PR99. While others don't think about it, we at Premium-Hifi do!
Play of colors
At Premium-Hifi, we offer the best VU meter illumination in 8 colors. Various measures ensure uniform illumination across the entire surface of the VU meters. By eliminating unnecessary circuit boards and SMD resistors (which overheat), we can produce cost-effectively.
Okay, the power loss =
21 V - 3 V * (2 x 20 mA) = 720 mW or for premium hifi 21 V - 6 V * 20 mA = 300 mW
Series connection
Our LEDs are connected in series.
Why do we do this? Well, the LEDs only require a voltage between 2.0 V and 3.5 V, not the 24 V of the incandescent bulbs. Furthermore, only one wire needs to be supplied with power, which in turn leads to less power loss that is converted into heat! Instead of 2 x 20 mA at 3 V LED voltage, Premium-Hifi only uses 1 x 20 mA at 6 V LED voltage.Voltage required.
Without circuit board
Yes, even the lamp bases used to be soldered directly on. So why an unnecessary circuit board? Don't worry, all you have to do is plug in the lights; we'll prepare and assemble everything else for you.
Exchange of the VU-Lighting
Remove device
The four rear GLoosen the casing screws and carefully pull the casing forward and out of the case. But be careful! Never lay the device on its side, on its front! Slowly pry the device out of the case – it works!
CAUTION! Unplug before opening!

Knobs
Now remove all knobs from the rotary switches and potentiometers. While the knobs are off, you can clean them with soapy water and a brush.
Sidebars
Loosen two screws on the right and left.Attention! The flap is mounted in the side rails and
Secured with two springs. The springs can pop off. Always approach with caution to avoid damaging the flap.
lower front panel
Now you can remove the lower front panel. The toggle switches are a bit intrusive. However, with a gentle back-and-forth movement, the front panel can be removed.
VU meter
Unscrew. The VU meters are floating and can be adjusted even after reinstallation.
Caution! Here, too, springs are installed that can easily pop off.
Replace bulbs
The position of the light source (filament and LED chip) is also at the same height. The black lamp socket is from the Revox A700 and is responsible for the peak display!
Connection
The connections for the VU meter illumination are located on the audio connection board of the Revox B77 and PR99. Here you need to connect the two 2.8 mm flat plugs
J 12 / P 12 = 0.0 V black (sw) and
J 13 / P 13 = 21 V red (rt)
Remove the bulbs and attach the LED replacement lighting.
Audio Interconnection
Now you can remove the VU meter lamps and replace them with our lighting. To do so, simply insert our replacement into the VU meter opening and connect
produce.
That's it, now put everything back together in reverse order!
