Counter 77
for all Revox A77, B77 and PR99 MK I
LED 7-segment display, 4 digits
We've been manufacturing this meter, now in its fifth generation, since 2003. Initially, all components were wired. Manual assembly and soldering was laborious, time-consuming, and therefore expensive. We now assemble almost everything using SMD technology. Except for the power supply, which used to be a series regulator, nothing has changed in the circuitry!
The purpose of the counter is:
Like the old counter, it counts the tape length and displays it in 4 digits using LED technology. A real-time count like the Revox A700 was never intended. That would require either a connection to both motors or a tape length reading via a pulley, similar to the PR99.
As a result you will receive:
A much more legible display of the current tape length, which in turn makes it easier to locate specific tape positions. The 7.62 mm high digits are particularly easy to read even from a distance; who sits directly next to the device?
Another advantage is:
No slippage: The accuracy is better than with mechanical counters with belt drive, which always have slippage!
You will never again need drive and timing belts, which have to be replaced at regular intervals with some effort (removing the front panel and removing the right brake band).
Description Counter 77
White ads
White 7-segment displays look very classy and perfectly match the aluminum applications of Revox tape machines.7-segment displays with 5.1 mm or 7.6 mm digit height in white are available exclusively from us. This allows you to determine the color of the display using only the included filter foils.
Colors
The included filter foils alone determine the appearance! You can adjust the color to your needs at any time. You can easily switch from red to green when switching from the B700 series to the B200 series. Amber matches the VU meters of the Revox A77, B77, and PR99 perfectly.
Zero suppression
We offer this counter with and without zero suppression. Mechanical counters cannot suppress leading zeros. With digital counters, it is possible, and we don't want to withhold this option from you. Instead of 0004, you'll see the correct number. 8884
Data retention
If low voltage is detected, for example, when turning off the Revox tape machine, the counter readings are saved. After saving, the G segments appear four times on the display until the voltage finally collapses. When the machine is turned back on, the last counter reading is displayed.
Null
is only reached by pressing the zero button (no reset, button is supplied) or counter reading 0.
1100 m tape length (LPR 35 on 27 cm reel) corresponds approximately to a counter reading of 3800.
Installation of
VU meter 77
Remove counter
When the original Revox counter is removed, space must first be made for the new counter. The Premium-Hifi counter is placed in the position of the original Revox counter.666
Open device
To access the electronic counter, Revox tape machines must be opened. Both the power supply and the connection to the right spool motor for speed and direction are located inside the device.
Install counter 77
All parts required for installation are included. First, the spacer bolts are screwed in place of the old counter.
Insert circuit board
The counter's circuit board is placed on the spacer bolts and loosely screwed in place. The counter is aligned with the front panel of the tape machine so that the zero button does not jam and
all 7 segments of the display are visible. Then, tighten the screws firmly. Pull the wires through to the back..
Power supply
Only these two wires need to be soldered. Unfortunately, we weren't able to conjure up a plug-in version. However, there are only two wires to solder, and the solder joints are easily accessible. Nevertheless, care is required here!
Sensorplatine
The sensor board is mounted on the drive control of the Revox B77 and PR99 tape machines and is pluggable. This allows the drive control to be removed from the machine at any time. Simply apply two pieces of film to the previously cleaned motor, secure the wires with the included cable ties, and reassemble the machine.
Montage
Unfortunately, the screw that attaches the drive control of the Revox B77 or PR99 to the chassis is somewhat obscured by the spacer bolt. But that's something you have to accept when retrofitting an upgrade!
